Twenty years ago a young man who just finished dental school literally got in a car with his wife and two dogs and drove to Florida, and received the keys to his own small business the very next day.
Through tireless hard work and dedication, not only did that man earn high marks from his professors but more importantly from his patients. They appreciated someone who took the time to care for them. Whether it was making sure that a child being bullied at school was able to have a nice smile and a good self-esteem, or helping the local children's sports teams when they did not have money to play, Dr. Larry Kawa has always believed in putting people first. It is that same philosophy that has made Larry Kawa a dedicated father and husband and Kawa Orthodontics one of the most successful local businesses in Florida.
While Dr. Kawa has earned many accolades and serves on many boards, his greatest professional accomplishment is the dedication and the loyalty shown to him by his employees and patients. Many of Dr. Kawa's employees have been there for over 15 years. They would do anything for him, and he would do anything for them.
It is that philosophy that has inspired Dr. Kawa to stand up for those who have no voice and those who do not think things can get better. Dr. Kawa wants to give everything he can for his country, because his country has given everything to him.
Larry Kawa, first and foremost, is a family man. He is a proud father, husband, and son. He is devoted to his wife Virginia and his children Michael and Niki.
Dr. Kawa is a second-generation orthodontist. He grew up in Brooklyn, New York, where he attended Brooklyn College and graduated with honors in 1987. He has a working knowledge of both Spanish and Portuguese. He lives with his wife, Virginia, in Boca Raton. Dr. Kawa’s dream is that one day his children will share his passion for orthodontics, and become the first third generation orthodontists in the United States. However, he encourages both of them to pursue their own individual interests. He’s proud of both of his children including Michael who is an accomplished student, and his daughter Niki who became a published author at the age of 7, with a #1 best selling book on Amazon.
Orthodontics runs in the Kawa bloodline. Larry Kawa is a proud second generation orthodontist in Boca Raton Florida since 1993. His father, Abe Kawa, was an orthodontist in Larry’s hometown of Canarsie Brooklyn for over 40 years.
Dr. Larry Kawa earned his degree from New York University in 1991 and his specialty certificate in Orthodontics and Dento-facial Orthopedics from New York University in 1993. He also earned a Bachelor of Arts in biology from Brooklyn College in 1987. He is a dual Board Certified Orthodontist, having been Board Certified by the National Board of Orthodontics. He did a thesis on cleft palates and craniofacial anomalies and their respective treatments. An emphasis in his training in his post-graduate studies was placed upon orthognathic surgery and complex interdisciplinary cases. He also spent a year in implant training and placement at New York University as well.
He is a member of the American Dental Association, Florida Dental Association, South Palm Beach County Dental Association (where he has served on the board of trustees), Broward County Dental Association and Southern Association of Orthodontists.
Dr. Kawa has also been a continuing education provider for the Florida Board of Dentistry since 1994 and has contributed to the dental community by sponsoring a complimentary study club for both dentists and their staff. He is also closely involved with the Boy Scouts, the Girl Scouts and the Haven (a home for abused and neglected children). The Florida Panthers (where he has served as the official team orthodontist since 1997), Bartons Boosters (program of underprivileged children), and the National Children’s Dental Health month project.
